7 Must-Read Stock Blogs

5 Recommendations

The Motley Fool's CAPS investing service is a great way for investors to work together to beat the market -- and maybe get famous while they're at it. Among its features, CAPS lets users blog about their picks, investing strategy, market view, yesterday's lunch, or whatever floats their boat.

As the CAPS blogosphere continues to grow, players are adding more great content on a daily basis. To make it easier to find some of the gems out there, I've dug through the past week's posts to find some of CAPS' best insights. Of course, with room for only seven posts here I can't possibly cover all of the great stuff in the CAPS blogosphere. So when you're done here, I highly recommend heading over to CAPS and checking out what some of the other investors have to say.

What's next after oil, food, and gold?
We've seen oil prices soaring and we've seen gold and other metals running up. We've also seen agriculture stocks like Monsanto and Mosaic (NYSE: MOS) go through the roof as food prices rise. But many investors are now asking what's next. CAPS blogger Jason1125 thinks he has the answer and it has to do with a clear, essential liquid. Head over to Jason's blog for his take on the situation.

Automakers without a plan
Will General Motors (NYSE: GM) and Ford (NYSE: F) make it through this mess? The auto-sales numbers out earlier this week didn't lend a lot of good cheer. Well, as TMFDeej points out, at least they can thank their stars that they're not Chrysler. Head over to TMFDeej's blog for a look at the situation in the auto industry, as well as his take on speeding tickets in the Garden State, oil drillers, and European inflation.

To drill or not to drill?
With oil prices out of control, one of the big questions in this U.S. election year is whether there should be a concerted push for more drilling within U.S. borders. CAPS blogger saunafool has taken a look at the current drilling statistics and concludes that we can't drill our way out of the current situation. Click through to his blog to see why.

What it means when I'm No. 2
Rudolphsteiner is a top-ranked CAPS player with a score of more than 6,000 and a stock-picking accuracy of 82%. And that's despite the fact that he didn't even start picking stocks in CAPS until March of last year. So what does it mean that Rudolph is among CAPS' top five? Well why not head over to CAPS and let Rudolph tell you.

Fooled into focusing on Wachovia? The fire's really at Prudential
It's been a rough ride for Wachovia (NYSE: WB), and the most recent hit has been the realization that it may have to buy out Prudential from a retail brokerage joint venture -- at exactly the time when it needs to be keeping as much cash on the books as it can. Turning the tables, though, CAPS All-Star luvb2b thinks that it's Prudential, not Wachovia, that we should be worried about right now. Check out the blog to find out why.

It's not too late for commodities!
Fellow Fool and CAPS All-Star TMFSinchiruna doesn't think that it's too late for investors to be looking at the stocks of commodity companies. Among his favorites are Yamana Gold (NYSE: AUY), Chesapeake Energy (NYSE: CHK), and Massey Energy. Hop over to his blog for the full story.

CircuitBuster not going to happen
The proposed buyout of Circuit City by Blockbuster (NYSE: BBI) seemed to make about as much sense as casting Sly Stallone in Pride and Prejudice. The two just didn't seem to mix. Now that it seems certain that this match made in Wonderland won't happen, CAPS blogger Tastylunch takes a look back at why this was such a bad idea. Head over to Tastylunch's blog for the scoop.

And that's our roundup for this week. Be sure to check back next week for more great blogging action. In the meantime, why not head over to CAPS and add your two cents to the community pool?
